Bostanlı Footbridge and Bostanlı Sunset Lounge are Now Open to Public

News

First phase of the partial spot design processes regarding our proposal “Karşıkıyı”; a part of “İzmir Coastline Regeneration Project” (İzmirSeaİzmirDeniz) initiated by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality have recently been completed. In this context, “Bostanlı Footbridge which is designed for the Bostanlı Creek mouth, and uniquely positioned “Bostanlı Sunset Lounge” promise genuine idleness spaces and a stirring user experience on one of the unexcelled spots on the shore.

Designed according to its unique location Bostanlı Footbridge with its delicate profile between two banks, allows small boats to pass underneath and dock the floating pier on the edge of the creek. The form of the wood clad steel construction bridge originates from the cascading section profile which encourages users to sit or lean towards the bay view.

Situated on the only fragment of Karşıyaka shoreline that is positioned perpendicular to the sea, Bostanlı Sunset Lounge, is formed of a series of wooden platforms reclining on a wooded hillside, all the way down towards the sea. The  simplicity and fluidity of the surface form encourages the users to get in a closer contact with the sea.

Absent Perch (Gaip Konak)
Jul 26, 2016
Oğuzhan Zeytinoğlu
News

“Absent Perch” is a work produced by Evren Başbuğ within the context of Bezirhane Meetings which have been organized in 3 phases by Argos Yapı and Arkitera in 2016 aiming to collectively address problems and potentials of Cappadocia. It is a short cut response to the huge gap between the mainstream architectural practices which are taught and applied professionally and the local spatial practices and discourse in Cappadocia region. Instead of trying to connect two distinct banks with a makeshift bridge which will probably injure both sides, Evren Başbuğ proposes to find a way to jump to the other side (Cappadocian side) which seems more surprising and sophisticated.

While momentarily abolishing the borderline between the designed and the natural on a fictive level, “Absent Perch” invites the audience into a sensory experience at the bizarre intersection of two contradicting worlds with a fabricated story.
